Manchester United have one final opportunity to salvage something from a dreadful season, by winning the FA Cup against Manchester City tomorrow.

The majority of Erik ten Hag’s squad has underperformed this campaign, with the team registering United’s worst-ever Premier League finish.

However, summer signing Rasms Hojlund and fan favourite Alejandro Garancho are two players who can hold their heads high after individual seasons of progress.

The attacking duo have spoken to MUTV ahead of the showpiece occasion at Wembley with one, if not both, of the players likely to be heavily involved if United are to return with the famous old trophy.

Hojlund shared his thoughts on the importance of the competition and expressed his desire to get his hands on some silverware in his first year in Manchester.

“It’s the oldest knockout competition ever. I think it has a special place in the history of United, but also the English community.

I think it’s a very, very special cup and I think it’s something that you definitely can be very, very proud of, if you win,” he said

The Dane added that United are also aware of the carrot of qualifying for Europe which will serve as further motivation to win on Saturday.

“And then, of course, there’s the loop for (qualifying for) Europe as well, which is quite important,” said Rasmus.

Garnacho came off the bench in last year’s final and looked like United’s best hope of grabbing an equaliser on the day – the young man is desperate to go one better this time around.

“Everyone’s dream is to win trophies. I won my first one last season (the Carabao Cup), my first season also. So it would be very special to win another one,” he said.

Hojlund then noted the achievement of United’s Women’s side who secured their first FA Cup success this month and says that the men’s team would love to emulate Marc Skinner’s side’s achievement.

“Congratulations to them. It would be good for the club again, if both teams can win the FA Cup. That would be very, very special. I can only look forward for Saturday,” he added.

The 20-year-old has been in good form recently, scoring in his last two games but insists that it doesn’t matter who gets the goals on the day, as long as United get over the line.

“I hope I can bring (my form) into the final. But then again, for me, the most important thing is to win. I really don’t care who is going to score.

Of course, my job as a number nine and a striker is to put the ball in the back of the net, if I get the chance, but, for me, I just hope that we can win,” said Rasmus.

United will certainly start the game as underdogs given the quality in City’s ranks and the fitness issues Ten Hag is contending with but football has a habit of springing surprises.

Should United win their 13th FA Cup crown on Saturday it will be a major feather in the cap for Ten Hag whose future may just rest on the result of the game.
