Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has taken responsibility for his lack of goals.

The 30-year-old has not scored in his last 15 club appearances, dating back to April, and he accepts it’s not good enough by his own standards.

“As for the club, I want to improve as soon as I get there, and make sure the goals start coming again,” Fernandes said, as quoted by The Independent.

“I have to start taking responsibility for that too, because I’m a midfielder who scores a lot of goals, and over the years, I’ve always been at a very high level in terms of goals and I have to live up to that, with those expectations.

“I also have my own standards, I don’t hold back on that.

“I haven’t scored for the club yet and I hope that as soon as I get there I can score and help the club get back to winning ways and to a good level.”

Fernandes, who is currently on international duty, isn’t the only United player who needs to raise their standards. The same could be said for the vast majority of players in our squad this season.

That’s why the team is positioned 14th in the Premier League and not where it should be, competing in the top half of the table.

Two red cards last month for Bruno Fernandes

Fernandes looks like a frustrated figure at United. That frustration may stem from his own performances if we go on his recent quotes.

The Portugal international was sent off against Tottenham and FC Porto, however, his dismissal in the former was overturned by the FA.

Fernandes needs to stay on the pitch if he plans on getting back to his goalscoring ways.
