In the wake of Liverpool's humbling 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in their Europa League quarter-final first leg at Anfield, former Serie A standout turned Manchester United star, Rasmus Hojlund, wasted no time in adding fuel to the fire.

The crushing defeat at Anfield saw Liverpool falter against an inspired Atalanta side, with former West Ham United forward Gianluca Scamacca bagging a brace and Mario Pasalic sealing the victory with a late goal.

The loss prompted swift reactions across social media, with fans expressing their frustration and disappointment.

However, it was the response from Rasmus Hojlund, now plying his trade at Old Trafford, that caught the attention of many.

Taking to social media following the match, the Danish forward shared Atalanta's post on his Instagram story, along with the caption "Mola mia," a Bergamo saying that roughly translates to "My team rocks."

£72-million move

Hojlund's connection to Atalanta runs deep, having enjoyed a successful stint at the Serie A club where he tallied 10 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions. His move to Manchester United last summer for a staggering £72 million didn't sever his ties with his former club, as evidenced by his reaction to their triumph over Liverpool.

Liverpool fans, already reeling from the disappointing result, were further incensed by Hojlund's social media activity, with some directing their frustration towards the Danish forward.

However, Liverpool must now regroup as they shift their focus back to the Premier League, where they sit second in the table on goal difference.

The side's next challenge is Crystal Palace, whom they face at Anfield on Sunday as they aim to bounce back from their European setback, with pressure mounting on Klopp and his players to deliver a response following the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Only after the visit of the Eagles can the Reds look to try to overturn the three-goal deficit when they head to Bergamo this time next week.
