Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Danish international striker Signe Bruun on a loan deal from Lyon until the end of the season.

Bruun becomes the first Dane to sign for Manchester United’s women’s side and is a huge boost for their attacking line having scored on six occasions in 10 appearances for her parent club, as well as registering 14 goals in 19 caps for the Danish national side.

Head coach Marc Skinner had been on the hunt for a striker throughout the transfer window and as the deadline edged closer, it looked inevitable that it wasn’t going to happen. Yet, at the 11th hour, The Red Devils were able to pull off the biggest signing of Deadline Day as the 23-year-old was confirmed by the club’s official sources.

Bruun arrives in Manchester with a huge reputation after being voted Denmark’s Women’s Player of the Year in 2021 and she could be the catalyst for not just The Red Devils’ push for the top three but possibly even a late title charge. Bruun will join an attacking ensemble of Ella Toone and Alessia Russo to create a young and talented offence that would strike fear in any defence.

Fans had been left frustrated by the lack of activity in the January transfer window by The Red Devils but the introductions of Diane Caldwell, Jade Moore and now Bruun will delight even the most cynical Manchester United fan.

With the teams around them dropping points and Skinner’s side playing their best football since reforming, the added strength-in-depth could be just what the team needs to elevate them to outsiders for lifting the Barclays FA Women’s Super League trophy in May.
