In a recent report, Clarin mentioned that Manchester United have set their sights on River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez. It has been claimed that the Red Devils could face competition in the form of Real Madrid and Manchester City in pursuit of the talented playmaker.
The Argentine sensation is enjoying a decent campaign at the El Monumental as he has been responsible for putting in some impressive displays at the centre of River Plate’s midfield. Fernandez has banged in eight goals and secured five assists in 18 appearances for the Argentine outfit this season in all competitions.
The 21-year-old has performed well to average 1.7 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.1 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Liga Profesional. He has even been careful when interchanging possession with his teammates, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 84.3% in the top tier of Argentine football (stats via whoscored).

Fernandez can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park. He is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side in midfield.
The Argentine youngster can create some inviting chances for others around him and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He has managed to contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. However, only time will tell whether Fernandez has got what it takes to maintain his good form in the Premier League where he will be tested physically week in week out. He usually plays as a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if needed.
We can expect the River Plate whizkid to bring some goals and creativity to Man United‘s midfield. At the very least, Fernandez will increase competition for places within the Red Devils‘ match-day squad. Thus, it makes sense for the Mancunian club to engineer a move to bring the Argentine talent to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens later this summer.
