In the dying moments of the first half, the 19-year-old midfielder clashed heads with a Tamworth player. The impact was severe: Koné fell to the turf and was immediately attended to by the medical staff. He was then stretchered off and taken to the hospital for further examination.

The club was quick to provide reassuring updates. “Sekou is conscious, stable and communicating with our medical team,” Manchester United stated in an official release. The match was suspended and ultimately called off to ensure the safety of all players.

Sékou Koné had been impressing since the start of the season with the U21s, and his absence will surely be felt on the pitch. Manchester United will closely monitor his recovery before making any decision about his return to training.
