Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao.
United have been linked with a number of Sporting stars since Ruben Amorim’s appointment in November.
Geovany Quenda appeared to be the most serious target from Lisbon. The 17-year-old, who made his breakthrough under Amorim, is capable of playing as a wing-back and winger.
However, Chelsea took advantage of United’s financial predicament and indecisiveness by swiftly agreeing a deal worth in the region of £44m for Quenda.
United’s European fate could play a big part in their summer plans, and at this point, it appears Amorim’s budget would be very limited.
Fortunately for Amorim, there is one Sporting star who is not expected to cost a lot and at the same time, has the potential to greatly improve his system at Old Trafford.
According to The Mirror (CaughtOffside), Amorim is very interested in reuniting with Trincao this summer and the United board are ready to satisfy their head coach’s wishes.
The 25-year-old is in the headlines after scoring a brace in Portugal’s incredible win over Denmark in the Nations League. The Portugal international is also enjoying a prolific campaign at club level, having registered an incredible 15 assists in all competitions.
Further, with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2026, Sporting might reportedly be “open to selling him for £30 million.”
A relatively bargain fee considering his skill sets and versatility. The Portuguese is capable of playing on both flanks and through the middle and would be a solid option for a wide playmaker role in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford.
After his struggles at Barcelona and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Amorim handed him a chance to rediscover his form at Sporting. Under the ex-Sporting boss’ tutelage, Trincao registered 50 goal contributions.
Now, Amorim is keen to re-sign the playmaker, and considering his price tag Ineos should definitely explore the possibility of securing his signature as soon as possible before more clubs join the race.
