Manchester United could axe seven players as transfer deadline closes in

According to the Evening Standard’s James Robson (h/t Express), Manchester United could be set to axe as many as seven players in this week as the transfer deadline day looms.

It has been a disappointing transfer window for Manchester United so far. Only one player has come into the squad, while Ed Woodward & co. have struggled to offload the deadwood from the roster.

However, that could be set to change in the coming week as Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are preparing for a huge clearout. (h/t Express)

Andreas Pereira could be the first one to make his way out of the club. The Brazilian is way down the pecking order currently. And, it is claimed that Pereira is already in talks with Serie A side Lazio over a summer move. (h/t Express)

Following him out of Old Trafford could be the defensive quartet of Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Diogo Dalot. (h/t Express)

Smalling spent the last season out on loan at Roma and could be headed back to the Italian capital outfit should an agreement be struck between the two clubs. (h/t Express)

Rojo, Jones and Dalot are well down the pecking order at Manchester United. And Solskjaer sees them as dispensable figures as the club looks to generate funds to push for Jadon Sancho’s signing. (h/t Express)

Jesse Lingard is another player who faces an uncertain future at the club. While it is claimed that Solskjaer is willing to hand him a longer rope to try and revive his career, the Englishman could very well end up on the chopping blocks. (h/t Express)

The last player who could be sold is goalkeeper Sergio Romero. The Argentine is the third-choice goalkeeper behind David de Gea and Dean Henderson. And he wants out of the club, with Everton interested.

Getting rid of the players should generate some revenue while also making room on the wage bill to bring in Jadon Sancho before the transfer window closes.

With very little time left, Manchester United must act swiftly or may end up regretting things.
