Manchester United prepared to double Joselu’s wages to tempt him to leave Real Madrid

Manchester United scored the joint-lowest goals in the Premier League enroute to a dismal eighth-place finish, their lowest-ever in the competition.

Erik ten Hag’s prohibitive style of play has been a huge factor behind the low number of goals scored as has been the lack of options at his disposal.

Rasmus Hojlund is the current top-scorer with 16 goals, quite a decent figure considering this is his debut campaign. But the club needed a lot more from their frontman.

The Dane arrived on the back of one year in Italy, which is obviously not enough to hit the ground running in the English top-flight. The 21-year-old has been inconsistent, scoring in spurts while struggling in other games.

Rasmus needs help

The former Atalanta starlet has struggled with the physicality of the English game, and the Dutch manager had envisaged these problems and had asked for reinforcements so as to not overburden the Denmark international.

Anthony Martial has remained perennially sidelined, the story of his United career, while Marcus Rashford’s off-field exploits have created more noise than his on-field displays.

No help was forthcoming from the Glazers, neither last summer or in January, and Ten hag was forced to keep playing Hojlund despite his diminishing returns and the fact that he was clearly overworked.

But new co-owners INEOS want to correct this flaw while also trying to avoid blocking the Danish hitman’s development path. The ideal signing is someone experienced, who can hit the ground running, can play with his back-to-goal and someone the United striker can learn from.

Real Madrid’s Champions League hero Joselu has been linked with a sensational switch to the Theatre of Dreams and now Defensa Central have claimed that the Red Devils are prepared to double his wages in order to fend off interest from Los Blancos.

Joselu again

The Spaniard is currently on loan at the Bernabeu from Espanyol and despite only 18 starts in all competitions, the 34-year-old has 17 goals and three assists, making him the third-highest scorer this season.

Real could sign him permanently for a measly €1.5 million but so far, no concrete decision has been taking, allowing the 20-time English league champions the chance to swoop.

“Joselu continues to interest Manchester United where his figure has gained weight over the last few months with the club willing to break the market to sign him.

“His two goals in the last semi-final of the European Cup against Bayern Munich convinced the majority of the Real Madrid hierarchy of the need to maintain the squad. Joselu waits for the decision while Manchester United continue to insist on his services.

“In England there is talk of an offer of a two-year contract for the Galician footballer which would increase Joselu’s salary exponentially. 5 million euros net per year.”

Joselu wage increase

The Spain international currently earns around €2,500,000 a year (capology) and that essentially means the Reds are prepared to double his wages should he choose Old Trafford over Madrid.

The player would not raise a fuss if not handed the starting berth and would be keen to help with whatever minutes he receives, an ideal signing in many ways.

He also has experience of playing in England, even though they were less-than-successful stints. Due to PSR concerns, INEOS cannot go all gung-ho in the market and the former Newcastle and Stoke City player would be a low-cost option which would allow them to spend elsewhere in the squad.

But the Spaniard is a huge Real fan and would love to stay. The decision sits with Florentino Perez. United will monitor proceedings with interest.
