Manchester United are interested in signing OGC Nice goalkeeper Marcin Bułka, as per reports.
Nice is owned by Ineos. When Sir Jim Ratcliffe purchased a minority stake in United, many fans expected the Red Devils to take advantage of the situation and bring in top players from the Ligue 1 outfit.
Ineos even tried to sign Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo last summer but their pursuit was hampered due to UEFA rules on multi-club ownership.
However, now that United have failed to qualify for European competitions for next season, the club’s hierarchy have once again set their sights on Nice to strengthen the Premier League giants.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Bułka is on United’s shortlist of goalkeeper targets this summer.
The 6’6″ Polish is considered a penalty specialist, owing to his strong presence between the sticks and sharp reflexes. He kept eight clean sheets in 34 Ligue 1 appearances for Nice this campaign.
The Poland international has played at youth level for Chelsea and has also represented Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.
United are yet to decide whether to sign a new number-one or back-up option for Andre Onana ahead of the new campaign.
As such, a relatively cheaper option like Bulka could prove to be a shrewd signing. The 25-year-old’s contract at Nice is due to expire in 12 months.
Alongside Bulka, United are also monitoring the situation of Emi Martinez.
Aston Villa are open to selling the Argentina international but United could face strong competition from Atletico Madrid for his signature.
The Mancunians have already addressed their third spot in the goalkeeping department by extending Tom Heaton’s contract. The veteran is reportedly set to sign a new one-year contract.
