Manchester United attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he wants to stay at the club.

The England international rejuvenated himself at West Ham where he spent the second half of this past season as a loanee.

He featured in 16 games, scoring nine goals and producing four assists.

According to The Sun, Lingard had a ‘candid meeting’ with the Norwegian about his future where he expressed the desire to remain at Old Trafford.

His inspiring performances helped the London club to secure Europa League football.

He also earned a recall to the national side and played in the recent friendlies against Austria and Romania.

Unfortunately, he did not make England’s 26-man team for Euro 2020 owing to stiff competition.

Red Rants view

Even after having a stunning season, it is hard to see the 28-year old regaining a regular spot in Solskjaer’s team next term.

Lingard was a standout as a number 10 for West Ham, but at United, Bruno Fernandes fills that role.

The Red Devils are also linked to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer who will be occupying the right flank.

All of this suggests that if Lingard stays at the Theatre of Dreams, he may have to make do with being a rotational player.

United might benefit from cashing in on the midfielder in this transfer window.

Transfermarkt values him at £19.80 million, but given his current form, the club may be able to demand a higher fee.
