Manchester United Out of the Race for Edinson Cavani | OneFootball

It’s time to put up or shut up as it’s now known that Edinson Cavani has handed in a transfer request and Paris Saint-Germain is prepared to sell him in January for €20 million according to ESPN.

One club that will not be signing PSG’s all-time leading scorer is Manchester United. According to The Times (via the Mirror), the Premier League club prefers to focus on younger players who can develop at the club and be there for the foreseeable future.

This might be the first smart thing that Manchester United has done all season.

Cavani is 32-years-old and has been battling various injuries the past two seasons. Mauro Icardi arrived from Inter Milan last summer via loan and usurped the Uruguayan in the starting lineup. Instead of working to earn more minutes, Cavani is pushing for a transfer away from Paris with six months left on his contract.

Atlético Madrid remains very much in the drivers seat to sign Cavani and it’s been reported that El Matador only wants a move to the La Liga side.

Chelsea FC could also make a bid before the close of the winter transfer window. Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was recently asked about Cavani and he didn’t rule anything out as reported by BBC Sport.

“He’s [Cavani] a great player; I played against him and always loved his mentality and attitude, and his scoring record speaks for itself.”

“I’m not absolutely aware of what the situation is, so we’ll see.”

“The idea of bringing in experience is something I’m certainly not absolutely looking away from because sometimes the young players need a little bit of help, and if that’s the case then that may help us.”

Whether it’s Atléti, Chelsea, or another team, the clock is ticking to get a deal done.
