Manchester United would be prepared to sell academy product Marcus Rashford this summer if someone offered over £70 million.

The form and future of the England international has been one of the most discussed topics of an abysmal 2023/2024 campaign.

He has been a shadow of his former self on the pitch and has courted controversy off it, between his drinking antics in Northern Ireland’s capital or speaking out publicly about the perceived abuse he has been facing this year.

This has resulted in numerous outlets and pundits discussing a possible departure from the club, with even the famously non-controversial sports journalist Andy Mitten stating yesterday that Rashford would probably be better off leaving the club this summer.

However, the picture is confusing due to the fact as soon as one report indicates United want to sell Rashford then another soon appears stating he wants to stay.

For example, it was reported earlier this week that United would be willing to sell most of their first-team squad, with the exception of a collection of youngsters.

Rashford has been very often linked to Paris Saint-Germain and even Arsenal in the past. The 26 year old has denied that he wants to leave the club, however, writing in the Player’s Tribune about his love for the football club.

ESPN adds more fuel to the fire though in regard to a potential exit by claiming that United have a set price in mind that would convince them to part ways with the player who is one game away from making 400 appearances for the club.

“Manchester United are not expecting offers for Marcus Rashford, a source has told ESPN, believing that there is no market for the England striker this summer.”

However, “United’s financial position means they would consider bids of north of £70 million for Rashford if they were received, but they are not expecting any team to match that valuation. The club are not actively looking to offload the player.”

“A source has told ESPN there is a feeling at Old Trafford that only Paris Saint-Germain could meet United’s fee demands and match Rashford’s wage request.”

In all likelihood it seems Rashford probably falls into the category of Bruno Fernandes, Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot as players who INEOS would rather keep but would not turn down ludicrous money for, as only Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are totally off limits.

However, if this figure is indeed true, teams at least have a number to work off should they try and attract the Manchester United star.
