Manchester United are following Red Bull Salzburg sensation Oscar Gloukh, as per reports.

Bruno Fernandes got a rare opportunity to rest during mid-week, as Erik ten Hag opted to start Christian Eriksen as the number 10 against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

The Portuguese saw his team put the game to bed while he was on the bench. Still, he did not put his foot off the gas and managed to register two assists in the last 10 minutes of the game.

The 30-year-old has started another season for the Red Devils strongly. However, as we saw towards the end of the last campaign, Fernandes cannot be expected to maintain his intensity and creativity all season without proper management of his minutes.

The club’s hierarchy seemingly recognise that and appear to be in the market to find a young playmaker to replace Fernandes.

According to Fussball News (via Sport Witness), United had a scout in attendance for Red Bull Salzburg’s fixture against Sparta Prague on Wednesday to monitor several stars of the Austrian outfit.

United are viewed as one of the clubs “taking a closer look” at Salzburg’s most highly-rated talents. In particular, Gloukh is on their radar.

During the summer transfer window, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Premier League giants have set their sights on the 20-year-old, who is believed to be open to a move to England despite joining the Red Bull club only in January of 2023.

The report from Fussball News suggests the attacking midfielder is being followed, potentially as a long-term replacement for Fernandes. His development is now being “monitored more closely.”

Salzburg were beaten 3-0 by Sparta in the Champions League on Wednesday, but Gloukh has enjoyed an encouraging start to the new term, having been involved in six goals in eight appearances across all competitions.

It is further suggested that Salzburg winger Adam Daghim could be on United’s radar as a replacement for Antony.

Despite his inexperience, the 18-year-old has attracted interest due to his “determination and straightforwardness.”
