Manchester United are reportedly looking for a player to bolster their midfield. They have been linked to Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte. However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, one of their alternative targets has slipped away from them.
This month, Luca Bianchin from La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that an ambitious project has been proposed to midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who is also attracting interest from AC Milan. Fofana has experience playing as a defensive, central, and right midfielder at AS Monaco.
Moreover, Romano reported this week that AC Milan is one step away from signing Fofana—a deal with Monaco is on the verge of being reached. The final details to secure a deal didn’t take long, as the Premier League side had to cross this player off their list.
According to Romano, Fofana will be heading to AC Milan for €25 million and will sign a four-year contract with an option for a fifth year.
The Red Devils have lost out to a cheaper alternative to paying the €60 million price that PSG have reportedly set for Ugarte. As the summer window is in its final stages, the English club will have to decide soon whether they want to pay the fee for the Uruguayan or go with an alternative target.
