It’s a new dawn at Manchester United as they have appointed Ralf Rangnick in an interim managerial role following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjær from the Old Trafford hot seat and if a report from BILD is believed to be true, the renowned German chief might hand Timo Werner a lifeline by securing his services from Chelsea.

Werner was supposed to join Liverpool back in the summer of 2020. However, the Reds decided not to match RB Leipzig’s valuation and the Blues hijacked the deal for a fee of around £47.5m. Although he enjoyed a blistering scoring record for the Bundesliga heavyweights, his wastefulness at Stamford Bridge led to stern criticism even though the West Londoners went on to conquer the Champions League title.

Werner netted six goals in 35 games in his maiden Premier League campaign and his stats have not improved much this term either with just one goal in 8 league appearances. Chelsea brought back Romelu Lukaku (for £97.5m) in a club-record transfer to resolve their striker conundrum and the German international, therefore, lost his regular role in the attacking third.

Why Manchester United Should Give It A Go

Having said that, Werner is full of potential with his pace, smart movement and great sense of positioning. His finishing might have let him down, but a fresh start elsewhere should see him regaining his lost charm. He had a productive stint at Leipzig under Rangnick’s tutelage and a reunion might benefit the Red Devils if a deal is agreed in the coming days.

Apart from Cristiano Ronaldo, the other Manchester United attackers have been highly disappointing in recent months. None of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard has done enough to cement a place in the starting XI and the new gaffer thus might find it tricky to find a stable frontline.

With Lingard, Martial and Cavani likely to depart by the end of the current season, United would require reinforcement to solve the crisis in the long run. Ronaldo, 36, is at the twilight of his illustrious career and it’s high time for the likes of Rashford, Sancho and Greenwood to deliver while spearheading the attack.

Chelsea, known as notorious negotiators, would only allow Werner’s egress if a financial profit is attained from the transfer. The 25-year-old forward might still revive his Blues career and it is to be seen now how things shape up in the due course of time for all parties involved.
