Recent reports from the Daily Mail state that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is set to return to Juventus on a free transfer as Massimiliano Allegri looks set to add to his options at the centre of the park.

The Serie A giants have reportedly offered the Frenchman a three-year deal in the region of £30 million, amounting to nearly £10 million per season.

‘Juventus and Pogba are still to reach a full agreement with some finer details still to be sorted, but there is positivity from all parties that a deal is close and will be reached.’ – The report read.

The Frenchman’s £300k-a-week contract will expire in June 2022, but Manchester United seem to have given up on the renewal talks. While various reports state that there is a bumper £500k-per-week offer on the table, at this point, it would be viewed as a disappointment if he puts pen to paper.

The £89-million signing seems destined to leave the club as a free agent in the summer, despite Erik ten Hag’s imminent arrival.

The 29-year-old could be a subject of last-minute interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, but he seems keen on returning to the club where he played the best football of his career.

The Right Time To Part Ways?

With just 1355 minutes’ worth of action in the English top-flight, Paul Pogba has had a disastrous 2021/22 season. It has been pretty much the same story over his six years at Old Trafford, as the France international struggles to keep himself fit for barely twenty appearances over the course of a year. Manchester United have often failed to dominate the midfield proceedings this term irrespective of the quality of the opposition – losing out on duels, giving away possession cheaply, lack of communication with the forwards – and Pogba has his fair share of blame in the mess.

Should he refuse to play against Crystal Palace this weekend, those nine minutes at Anfield were the last time we saw Paul Pogba in the Manchester United jersey.

Perhaps, on the back of a failed move, parting ways is the best possible decision for all the concerned parties at the moment.
