Manchester United looking to sign two players before the window closes

According to MEN (h/t Express), Manchester United are set to end the summer transfer window with a bang.

The Red Devils had an emergency transfer meeting after the humbling we received against Crystal Palace at home last weekend. Our season got off to the worst of starts with a 3-1 loss to Roy Hodgson’s side.

Our only major signing of the window so far, Donny van de Beek, scored on the night in a performance that left more questions than answers.

With just 12 days to go before the window closes, United are keen to add to their squad. Red Devils’ transfer negotiator Matt Judge held a meeting with intermediaries to fork out plans for new signings going forward.

According to the report, United will look to bring in two new players in the upcoming days.

The priority remains unchanged, with the club looking to bring in a new right-winger. Despite there being a lack of progress, Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho remains the club’s top target.

The performance against Palace has also forced the club to reinforce their backline. A left-back is on the agenda, with Porto star Alex Telles a prominent target.

The Brazilian is in the last year of his contract and could be on the move this summer. However, the deal is yet to be confirmed, with United also monitoring Dynamo Kiev left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko.

A centre-back is also on the agenda but the club will have to sell before they can buy. The likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo could all make way for new players.

While it is heartening to see the club finally decide to take action, the question must be asked as to why it had to be left so late.

The likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur have all reacted proactively than reactively.

It needs to be asked if the club would even have considered bringing in new faces had Palace not humbled us at the Theatre of Dreams.
