Manchester United are believed to be interested in signing Juventus goalkeeper and Poland international Wojciech Szczesny.

With David de Gea out of contract at the end of the season, bringing in a new goalkeeper could be on the agenda for Manchester United next summer. Martin Dubravka joined on a season long loan and Dean Henderson looks unlikely to become number one anytime soon.

A new report from Calciomercato claims United are interested in signing former Arsenal stopper Szczesny, in what would be a shock swoop because I can imagine Erik ten Hag will want to identify further targets than settling on the Polish No 1.

At 32-years-old, Szczesny is set to star at the World Cup and he already has a wealth of experience under his belt, which is something Ten Hag may want from his future keeper at Old Trafford — if United move on from De Gea in the summer.

It’s worth remembering that United have an option to extend De Gea’s contract by a further 12-months, but our understanding is that they would need to discuss his salary.

De Gea is currently the highest paid keeper in the world – but I still wouldn’t like to see us replace him with Szczesny.

The Spaniard has improved in a number of areas this season under the Dutchman. For instance, he is far more willing to come off his line and this takes a lot of pressure off the defenders.

I don’t think United will rush into a decision anytime soon on the matter.
