As per Jan Aage Fjortoft, Manchester United are keeping a close eye on RB Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer.

Besides United, Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing Sabitzer.

Sabitzer is a highly-talented prodigy with a knack for playing in several different positions throughout the midfield and forward-line.

Signed for RB Leipzig in 2014, Sabitzer has made 196 appearances. He’s scored 45 goals and grabbed 36 assists for the German side. [source: Transfermarkt]

He’s sidelined with a thigh injury for the majority of this season. And therefore, he has only two goals and one assist to his name from eight outings in all competitions.

His contract expires in 2022.

Our take

Manchester United signed midfield dynamo Donny Van de Beek in the summer. The Sabitzer rumours could be true considering Paul Pogba’s uncertain future at Old Trafford.

Sabitzer is a quick, versatile attacking midfielder who could be very useful for United if we see Pogba depart. There’s no acknowledgement of a transfer fee, but, he’s valued at €35m on Transfermarkt.

United are heavily linked with another midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu. It’s positive to see United are shortlisting options if Pogba leaves. Both Sabitzer and Calhanoglu are decent alternatives.
