In a recent tweet, former Premier League striker and ESPN pundit Jan Åge Fjørtoft has revealed that Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Red Bull Leipzig winger Marcel Sabitzer. It is understood that the Red Devils are following the Austrian international closely ahead of a potential move in the future.

Sabitzer’s Impressive Start To This Bundesliga Season

Sabitzer has made a bright start to this campaign after putting in some productive displays despite sitting out of three matches because of a muscle injury. The Wels-born wing wizard has banged in two goals and secured one assist in seven appearances for the German outfit this term across multiple competitions.

The 26-year-old has done well to influence the game at both ends of the field as he is averaging 1.0 tackles, 2.0 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 1.3 shots and 1.0 key passes per game in the Bundesliga. He has been relatively tidy with his ball-distribution based on his pass success rate of 78.3% in league football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Red Bull Arena runs out at the end of next season, so Leipzig might be forced to sell him next summer or else risk losing him for free when his deal expires in the summer of 2022. Unless Sabitzer pens a new contract soon, the door could be open for the Red Devils to engineer a move to bring him to Old Trafford.

What Will The Austrian Playmaker Add To Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Team?

Sabitzer has often been deployed as a right-winger but can also fill in as a central midfielder if required. He is a highly versatile, two-way player as he can to do a bit of everything down the right flank or at the centre of the park.

The 44-time Austrian international possesses decent pace in his locker and is usually a composed dribbler with the ball at his feet. He has also developed a habit of scoring and assisting some important goals for his team. When he is not contributing in the final third, he can still be a useful presence on the field as he works his socks off for the benefit of his side.

A player of Sabitzer’s versatility and experience will undoubtedly be a shrewd addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad. At 26, the Austrian sensation is currently playing at his peak and will only add more pace and goal-threat to Man United’s first-team. Plus, Sabitzer has enough UEFA Champions League experience under his belt to help Solskjaer’s men stay competitive in European football in the coming seasons.

With all things considered, the Red Devils should consider launching a cut-price move for Sabitzer at the end of this campaign as he could help them compete for major trophies in the years to come.
