Manchester United are reportedly considering three candidates for the role of sporting director. However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to be in no hurry to make a decision following the surprising departure of Dan Ashworth.

The 53-year-old took on the role of Manchester United’s sporting director over the summer after a protracted effort to lure him away from Newcastle, a move reportedly costing the club up to £10 million.

Nonetheless, just over five months into the position, Ashworth’s departure was announced on Sunday, leaving new minority shareholders INEOS in an awkward spot.

Last month, Robin Bairner of Football Transfers reported that Arsenal approached Campos about replacing Edu. However, the Gunners aren’t the only Premier League club keeping an eye on the Portuguese club chief.

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United are already considering three candidates for the vacancy. Dougie Freedman is seen as the favorite, with experienced Campos also in contention.

Moreover, it’s reported that technical director Jason Wilcox is a strong internal option and could be promoted to the role.

The PSG club chief’s contract expires in June 2025, and he has yet to sign an extension with the Ligue 1 side to continue this project with manager Luis Enrique.
