Manchester United boss José Mourinho is keen on bringing Napoli forward Dries Mertens to Old Trafford this summer.

At least, that’s according to The Sun, who claim United want to replace Anthony Martial at the end of the season and are attracted by the fact Mertens has a release clause set at just £25m for clubs outside Italy.

The 30-year-old Belgian has been one of the best players in Serie A over the last couple of years, scoring an incredible 45 goals since being converted from a wide man into a striker mid-way through last season.

Mourinho is said to be impressed by the former PSV Eindhoven man’s versatility and The Sun say preliminary talks have already been held with the player’s agent.

Should Napoli miss out on the Serie A title this season, as now looks likely, it’s possible that several of their star names will be leaving the Stadio San Paolo, along with coach Maurizio Sarri, who has been heavily tipped to succeed Antonio Conte at Chelsea.

Midfielder Jorginho has also been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but it seems the Italy international is currently more likely to end up joining local rivals Manchester City instead.

And if Jorginho does leave the Partonopei, he could be replaced by United’s Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian is yet to reach an agreement with the Red Devils over a new contract, and Juventus and Roma are also said to be keeping tabs on his situation.
