Manchester United have shown interest in Aston Villa centre-back Pau Torres, as per reports in Spain.

Over the weekend, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United missed out on Villa sensation Jhon Durán despite heavily scouting the Colombian striker during his time in the MLS with Chicago Fire.

Similarly, the Red Devils were previously reported to have their eye on Torres before he moved to the Birmingham outfit from Villarreal in 2023.

The Spaniard took little time to find his feet in English football and has established himself as one of Unai Emery’s most reliable players in defence.

He also delivered a commanding performance and helped his side keep a cleansheet against the Mancunian giants, as the two sides played out a goalless draw over the weekend.

According to Fichajes, Torres has “sparked” interest at United, who are reportedly “willing to offer a figure close to €50 million” to bring the Villa star to Old Trafford.

The Spanish outlet adds that Villa “have not ruled out accepting” the said amount.

Despite his successful stint under Emery in England, the possibility of moving to a club of United’s stature would be viewed as a big step forward in the Spain international’s career.

It is suggested Villa would also “look favourably” on a sale for a fee in the region of €50m as that would help them add reinforcements to further strengthen Emery’s project at Villa Park.

Over the summer, United yet again spent heavily on central defenders, adding Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt to their ranks. The former remains on the sidelines due to injury and the latter was benched against Villa as Ten Hag surprisingly opted to place his trust in Jonny Evans.

Evans was named Man of the Match for his incredible display, but at the age of 36, he cannot be viewed as a long-term solution.

As such, it would not surprise many if United are once again in the market for a new centre-back sooner rather than later.
