In a recent tweet, Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg mentioned that Manchester United have identified Lille forward Jonathan David as a target. It is believed that the Red Devils are showing interest in landing the Canadian striker next year.

David’s Impressive Form In French Football

David is having a fruitful season in French football as he has put in a series of goal-scoring performances as the focal point of Lille’s attack. The 22-year-old has banged in nine goals and earned three assists in 15 matches for the French club during this campaign across all fronts.

The Canadian sensation has given a good account of himself in the final third after he averaged 3.3 shots, 1.4 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Ligue 1 football. He has even taken care of possession well when linking up play deep inside the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 83.9% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

He is under contract at the Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre-Mauroy is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, it won’t be easy for Man United to lure him away to England when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.

What Will Jonathan David Bring To Manchester United?

David has got decent pace under his belt and can make a few promising runs with the ball in the final third. He can shoot the ball with venom and deserves credit for establishing himself as a prolific forward in England. David is primarily a centre-forward but can even operate as a right-sided wide player if his manager asks him to do so.

The Canadian sensation is even quite tidy with his link-up play on the attacking third of the field. He is currently playing at a high level and is making his nation proud in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

We can expect David to bring plenty of pace and goals to Erik ten Hag‘s frontline if the Man United head coach can find a way to bring him on board. At 22, he is still quite raw and would need time to settle into life in Premier League football.

Still, there is no denying his potential, so the Red Devils would be wise to focus their attention on recruiting David next year as he could help the Mancunian giants compete for a place in the Premier League’s top-four and maybe even challenge for some major trophies over the next decade.
