In a recent report, The Times (subscription required) revealed that Manchester United have identified Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara as a prime target. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils’ new interim manager, Ralf Rangnick is eyeing the Mali international as his first signing ahead of the January transfer window.

Haidara’s Decent Run Of Form In German Football This Season

The Bamako-born talent is enjoying a solid campaign at the Red Bull Arena after producing a series of dominant displays at the heart of Leipzig’s midfield. Haidara has featured in 17 matches for the German side this season, scoring three goals in the process on all fronts.

The Malian midfield ace can do a bit of everything at the centre of the park as he is averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.0 shots and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 81.4% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).

Is Haidara A Good Choice For Manchester United’s Interim Boss Ralf Rangnick?

Haidara is a tough-tackling midfielder who works hard to win the ball back for this team. He doesn’t shy away from having a strike at goal and can make a few energetic runs with the ball towards the opposition penalty box. The 24-time Mali international is a good passer of the ball as well but has to figure out a way to add more assists to his game.

Currently, Manchester United can definitely use someone of Haidara’s skillset who would add more energy and dynamism to Ralf Rangnick’s midfield. He could serve as an upgrade over Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Fred at Old Trafford.

At 23, Haidara has got his best years ahead of him which makes him a perfect choice for the Red Devils to consider this winter. He will also be an ideal fit for Rangnick’s gegen-pressing style of play at the Theatre of Dreams. However, only time will tell whether the Leipzig star can make a smooth transition to life in English football if the Mancunian giants end up acquiring his services in January.
