Manchester United have reportedly made enquiries about Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Andre Onana is in the headlines, not for his shot-stopping skills but for his free-kick coaching. The Cameroon international was spotted giving instructions to Bryan Mbeumo during a set-piece routine against Eswatini earlier this week.

At Old Trafford, Onana has usually grabbed the attention due to his erratic style of goalkeeping that often leaves the Red Devils vulnerable.

Erik ten Hag’s big-money signing has yet to win over the trust of the United faithful and there have been suggestions that Ruben Amorim could push for a new signing.

According to TBR Football, United have made enquiries about Trafford as they are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper.

The Mancunians are understood to be doing work on “potential options to bolster” their goalkeeping department and are open to signing a new shot-stopper to challenge Onana, who is currently considered the undisputed number one at the club.

Onana’s understudy, Altay Bayindir has done little to threaten his starting spot and is expected to return to Turkey at the end of the season.

Amid their search, Trafford has landed on the Premier League giants’ radar and they have “asked about signing” the Englishman.

The 22-year-old left Manchester City for Burnley in 2023 and has since earned plenty of plaudits for his well-rounded style of goalkeeping.

Trafford is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and solid without it. His resilience helped Burnley clock up 1,000 minutes without conceding a goal in the Championship this term.

During this run, the record-breaking young goalkeeper saved two penalties to ensure his side kept 11 successive clean sheets.

However, United face competition from Newcastle United, with Eddie Howe chasing Trafford since last summer.
