Manchester United have reportedly turned their attention to Fiorentina attacker Nicolas Gonzalez.

The Red Devils went through large stretches of last season where they struggled to find the net.

The club have already tried to address this issue by bringing in Joshua Zirkzee and with Jadon Sancho back involved in the senior team, there are more options to call on.

Nonetheless, despite the club’s difficulties in selling players, new owners Ineos are still looking to add talent to the squad before the closure of the window and it has been rumoured that they may look to add more attacking depth with Ivan Toney once again recently linked.

Spanish outlet Marca (via Fichajes.com), have reported that United have a surprise candidate on their radar to bolster the attack.

It is reported that “the latest target that is now being discussed at Old Trafford undoubtedly gives a high margin for surprise.”

“The British have on their agenda none other than Nico González, a 26-year-old Argentine who is a key piece of Fiorentina.”

Described as a “player of great quality” and someone who is “undoubtedly liked by big teams”, his transfer would likely “require a high outlay.”

The Argentine, who won Copa America in 2021, was in fine form last season netting 16 goals and providing five assists as Fiorentina reached the final of the Conference League.

The 26 year old has been labelled as “a very versatile offensive player that can fulfil multiple roles.”

“He has the speed and trickery in 1vs1 of a winger, the vision to find space of an attacking midfielder and the ability to get into good finishing positions, as well as to convert them, of a striker.”

Should United find a way of selling Antony or indeed Jadon Sancho moves on, the side would be a little light in the wing areas and there is no doubt Gonzalez’s versatility could come in useful.

In addition, Rasmus Hojlund’s six week injury lay off to start the season has heaped pressure on new addition Zirkzee, so the arrival of another goalscorer would certainly aid the Dutchman’s settling in period.
