Manchester United fans voiced their concerns over manager Erik ten Hag when they booed his decision to remove Alejandro Garnacho and not Marcus Rashford for Amad Diallo during the second half yesterday against Liverpool.

The Red Devils were crushed 0-3 at Old Trafford and even the biggest United fan would secretly admit it could and maybe should have been more.

Whilst Casemiro will take the headlines for two glaring errors leading up to both first-half goals, the form of Rashford continues to be an incredibly divisive issue at the club.

The Englishman only scored eight goals last season and many hoped he could bounce back to something more similar to Ten Hag’s first season when he scored 30 goals in all competitions.

Nonetheless, four poor performances to start the season have done little to assuage concerns over the 26 year old.

He currently as an xG of 0.00, after not having taken a shot yet this season, an incredible statistic for the side’s most experienced attacker.

The Mirror report that “during the game, supporters made their thoughts known on Ten Hag’s tactical decisions. The Dutchman decided to take off Argentine forward Garnacho midway through the second half and replaced him with Amad.”

“That call saw fans inside Old Trafford express their anger with loud boos. It seemed more obvious for Ten Hag to take Marcus Rashford off of the pitch after struggling throughout the 90 minutes.”

Sky sports pundit Gary Neville commented after the game that it’s “sad” watching the current version of Rashford and this was symbolised where he was put through in the second half one-on-one against a Liverpool defender, but instead of racing towards goal to unleash a shot, turned back and passed the ball back to the halfway line, much to the displeasure of the Old Trafford faithful.

In the interest of fairness, Rashford possibly could have had two assists when Joshua Zirkzee missed a couple of chances, especially a free header he should have buried from a delicious cross by the Englishman.

Nonetheless, United expect and need so much more from their winger.

Old Trafford is home to a loyal, knowledgeable and patient fan group. Despite the catalogue of poor performances and results over the last decade, the booing of a manager or player is a rare occurrence. However, fans are reaching breaking point with Ten Hag over many things but in particular his continued undeserved selection of Rashford.

Objectively Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho are the club’s most in-form and dangerous wingers right now and both deserve game time ahead of the Englishman. Ten Hag’s apparent blind faith in Rashford could very well be his undoing at the club.
