In a recent report, The Guardian has stated that Manchester United have failed with their opening bid for Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier this summer. It has been revealed that the Spanish club are refusing to budge from their €40m valuation of the England international which could make it difficult for the Red Devils to sign him in this off-season (via The Guardian).

Trippier’s Solid Campaign In Spanish Football

Tripper experienced another encouraging season as Diego Simone’s first-team right-back as he put in some solid displays for them down the right flank. The 30-year-old picked up six assists in 35 matches for the Madrid giants in the previous campaign across all competitions.

The 30-year-old gave a good account of himself by averaging 2.2 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.7 clearances, 1.2 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga last season. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the right-wing after completing 79.4% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).

Trippier has successfully established himself as one of the best right-backs in Spanish football, so it is no surprise that a top club like Man United are hoping to bring him back to the Premier League before the start of the new campaign.

Should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Launch Another Move For Trippier This Summer?

Tripper is an energetic presence down the right flank and is a very good defender when left isolated in a 1v1 situation with the opponent. He is a solid tackler of the ball and has got the hunger to make some crucial interceptions for his side. The 29-time England international can even clear the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. He is a decent crosser of the ball as well and can chip in by securing a few important assists in the final third.

Trippier is an accomplished full-back who would add some creativity to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defence. He will be an upgrade over Aaron Wan-Bissaka going forward which makes him a good option for the Red Devils to consider during this summer transfer window. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur talent will also enhance the overall depth of Solskjaer’s match-day squad in the coming seasons.

At 30, Tripper has still got a few good years left in him to play his best football, so he will be a good, short-term signing for Man United this summer. With all things considered, Solskjaer should think about orchestrating another move to acquire the services of the English full-back ahead of the new season.
