United are thinking seriously about making a move for their former defender if he hasn’t signed a new contract by the end of this year.

A United source close to the situation had this to say:

“Johnny’s name has come up in conversation”.

“There are still a lot of people here who have plenty of time for him – and that includes Ole and Mike Phelan.”

United are looking to add a center back to their roster in the coming transfer windows. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would like to have a consistent player to turn to when the team are under pressure.

United are also interested in Dayot Upamecano, Milan Skriniar and Raphael Varane.

However, the lack of cash at hand would make it difficult to attract big players. The report from the Sun also states that OGS would have only £20 million in January – unless he can bring in more from sales.

That is why United are monitoring Jonny Evans.

Jonny Evans has had a consistent run in the Premier League since leaving Man United. Evans is a composed figure who can take responsibility for the defense.

Jonny Evans is out of a contract next summer. If he doesn’t agree a new deal by January, Manchester United can start talking to him about a free transfer.
