Manchester United eye surprise swoop for Real Madrid forward – report | OneFootball

In a surprise move, reports in Spain, as relayed by BeSoccer, suggest that Manchester United are weighing up a summer move for Real Madrid forward Joselu.

The 34-year-old centre-forward joined Los Blancos last summer, arriving on a loan deal from RCD Espanyol, with a permanent purchase option for €1.5 million.

Since joining the club, the Spanish international has surpassed expectations, performing exceptionally well for someone who is far from a regular starter.

Given his contributions, Real Madrid have already decided to sign Joselu permanently for €1.5 million in the summer.

Manchester United meddling

Now, though, Manchester United have seemingly entered the picture, as they weigh up a possible move for Joselu in the summer.

The Red Devils have reportedly sent emissaries to the Spanish capital in recent weeks to observe the veteran striker and ask about his situation.

Manchester United are looking for an experienced striker to operate as a backup and see Joselu as a good fit, considering he has excelled in such a role at Real Madrid this season.

Furthermore, the Spaniard has some experience in the Premier League having previously played for Newcastle United and Stoke City.

Joselu wants to stay at Real Madrid

Joselu has a contract with his parent club, Espanyol, until the summer of 2025, but has made it clear that he wishes to remain at Real Madrid beyond this season.

“I hope to stay with Real Madrid on a permanent deal. I had a clause that if Espanyol went down, I could go out on loan,” he said in a recent interview.

“Well, Madrid had the opportunity, they thought it was convenient to be able to trigger it. And here I am,” he added.

Those within the Real Madrid offices also see retaining Joselu as a good option by activating his permanent buy option at the end of the season.

Whether the emergence of Manchester United in the picture adds any wrinkles to the situation remains to be seen.
