Ten Hag was speaking after United's thrilling 4-3 win over Liverpool to the FA Cup quarter-finals, which keeps his side's hopes of silverware alive.

With the top five in the Premier League all likely to qualify for next season's Champions League, both fourth-placed Aston Villa and fifth-placed Tottenham are in pole position.

United are six points back in sixth and still in contention having seen both Spurs and Villa drop points this season.

"The team showed resilience and determination to win this game," Ten Hag told BBC Sport after the win over Liverpool. "We have had so many setbacks. We are very strong mentally. We energised the fans, they got behind us, and we won.

"It doesn't matter who the opponent is, you have to play your best. Yesterday we saw Coventry are a very strong side. They played fantastic football and we have to play our best if we want to be in the final.
