Manchester United earn unexpected windfall as Borussia Dortmund reach Champions League last four | OneFootball

Manchester United are paying for years of mistakes in the recruitment department with new co-owners INEOS grappling with growing PSR concerns.

That is why Sir Jim Ratcliffe is planning a summer clearout so as to trim the wage bill and raise enough capital so that they can focus on the rebuilding job at hand.

Jadon Sancho is one of the high-profile names in that list. There is very little chance he returns to Old Trafford as long as Erik ten Hag remains the manager.

The Englishman had a major falling-out with the former Ajax coach after the Dutchman called him out for his below-par training displays leading up to the Arsenal game earlier this season.

Those comments did not sit well with the forward who subsequently went on to put out a social media statement against the manager accusing him of making the player a scapegoat.

The England international’s camp further insinuated that Ten Hag offers preferential treatment to Antony. The 24-year-old subsequently refused to apologise and he was banished from the first team.

The former Manchester City academy graduate was sent out on loan to former club Borussia Dortmund in January where he is starting to show signs of life.

He has made 14 appearances for the German giants, netting twice and registering as many assists with BVB completing a stunning turnaround against Atletico Madrid recently to make the Champions League semi-finals.

And according to The Manchester Evening News, this achievement meant United earned more from Sancho’s loan deal as it contained a payment clause regarding Champions League advancement.

“Manchester United’s financial fair play position has received a boost this week after Borussia Dortmund’s qualification for the Champions League semi-finals triggered another payment as part of Jadon Sancho’s loan deal.

“Dortmund paid an up-front fee of €3.5million to take Sancho on loan in January, with a further €4m in potential add-ons. A United source said a “significant” bonus has since been activated after their unlikely journey to the semi-finals of the Champions League.”

Every penny counts and this will no doubt be a boost. The Red Devils could potentially earn even more money if Dortmund reach the final.

As for the player’s future, United are still hoping to earn a decent chunk from the forward’s sale in the summer.

But as things stand, Dortmund are eyeing a discount and are hoping Sancho’s desperation to leave Old Trafford will go in their favour.

But if INEOS end up sacking Ten Hag and with former City academy head Jason Wilcox’s arrival also on the cards, Sancho could once again find himself back in Manchester.
