Katie Zelem netted the game’s only goal midway through the second half as The Red Devils recorded an excellent victory over a Paris Saint-Germain side who were runners-up to European champions Lyon in the French D1 Arkema last season.
In the absence of first-choice Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps, stand-in stopper Sophie Baggaley enjoyed an excellent 90 minutes. She denied Nina Ngueleu the opening goal when left one-on-one with her opponent early in the first half before producing a good save following an Élisa de Almeida effort later in the opening 45 minutes.
Paris Saint-Germain continued their dominance early in the second period but Ona Batlle blocked an Estelle Cascarino shot while the French side struggled to hit the Manchester United goal.
It was The Red Devils who took the lead in the 66th minute when Lucía García teed up Zelem to rifle the ball home from the edge of the area.
Substitute Grace Clinton had a chance to extend Manchester United’s lead but she was unable to beat Lydia Williams in the Paris Saint-Germain goal as the game ended 1-0.
Marc Skinner’s side will now take on German club Bayern Munich in the Amos French Women’s Cup 2022 final on Friday.
