According to Sport1 (h/t The Daily Mail), Manchester United have received a massive boost in their pursuit of striker Andre Silva.
The Portuguese sensation is enjoying an excellent season with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. With 23 goals and seven assists in just 26 Bundesliga appearances, he is spearleading the German side’s bid for a top four finish. (h/t Transfermarkt)
It has now emerged that Silva has a relatively cheap £26million release clause in his contract. This can see United grab him for a song in the upcoming summer.
With the futures of both Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani unclear, the Red Devils will need to dip into the market for a striker this summer.
While Erling Haaland remains our top target, competition for the Norwegian is high with some of the continent’s top sides in the fray. That is not to mention Borussia Dortmund’s massive asking price of around £150m.
To put things into context, Silva isn’t just much cheaper than Haaland but has also outscored him in the German top flight this season. It is fair to say that United will be getting their money’s worth with the Portuguese striker.
The 25-year-old came through the ranks at FC Porto before joining AC Milan in 2017. While his time at the San Siro was disappointing, he has since gone on to thrive at Eintracht Frankfurt.
A prolific scorer, Silva has two years left on his deal. The potential return of Luka Jovic could see Frankfurt hope to raise funds by selling Silva. This can work in our favour, should United decide to pursue the striker.
