Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane urged to push for summer transfer before Manchester United pull out

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp has warned Harry Kane that he could miss out on a move to Manchester United this summer if he doesn’t force a transfer.

The England international’s current deal expires in the summer of 2024. As evident from Redknapp’s comments, Manchester United’s name has been linked with Kane in recent weeks.

Why wouldn’t it be? Manchester United need a world-class striker and they hardly come any better than Kane. Manchester City wanted him in 2021.

But Spurs resisted. Eventually, Kane stayed in N17 while Manchester City signed Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland last summer. It is safe to say they are no longer in need of a new No. 9.

Is Redknapp right?

The same could happen with Manchester United. Daniel Levy is apparently making things difficult and Spurs would not want to sell the 29-year-old to a direct rival.

Amidst this, Redknapp, who also played for Liverpool during his playing days, has urged Kane to force a move to Manchester United before that ship sails. He wrote, via Sky Sports:

“Tottenham are a shambles, they can’t get a manager. If you were Harry Kane, with one year left on your contract, it feels like this is the time to leave. He has to push now because Manchester United could go for somebody else. Kane missed Manchester City a few years ago, when he wasn’t allowed to leave.

“Right now, with a year left on his contract, it feels like he needs to push [for an exit], go somewhere, and really show how good he is. “At the moment Tottenham aren’t even close, it’s like a social experiment for how close you can push your fans before they completely lose it. Kane deserves better.”

Levy will have a very tough choice this summer if Kane doesn’t renew his deal. We could have to sell him so that we avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Selling him to a direct Premier League rival like Manchester United would be added salt to the wounds. But Redknapp’s comments, as brutal as they may sound, have at least some truth to them. That doesn’t mean we give up our ambitions.

We should get in a top quality manager, and a new sporting director and try to rebuild the team with Kane at the centre. Whether the English superstar, who hasn’t won a team trophy in his career, is up for it, remains to be seen.
