Liverpool will come up against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
However, the Red Devils could be without centre-back Harry Maguire. The 28-year-old injured his lower leg against Aston Villa last weekend.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unsure if Maguire will be available for the upcoming clash against Liverpool.
Solskjaer told Manchester United’s official website the following: “We’ve got to check it [Maguire’s injury]. It might be a few weeks, might be a couple of days – who knows.
“I’m not a doctor and we’ve got to check him and scan him tomorrow.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Maguire is the captain of Manchester United, which does highlight that he is a key player for Solskjaer’s team.
Maguire is averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.98 across the 2020-21 campaign. The aforementioned figure highlights that he is having a decent season.
Therefore, Maguire’s absence on Thursday night would aid Liverpool.
Liverpool go into the match having defeated Southampton 2-0 at Anfield last weekend. Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara were Liverpool’s goalscorers on the night.
Liverpool are six points behind fourth-placed Leicester City. However, Liverpool do have a game in hand (four games remaining in total).
Liverpool can still finish inside the top four of the Premier League. A top four finish would secure Champions League football for the 2021-22 season.
Therefore, Liverpool have a lot to play for between now and the end of the season.
