Manchester United cool down search as Ralf Rangnick could become permanent boss

According to The Sun, Manchester United have decided to cool down their search for a new boss as Ralf Rangnick could become the permanent manager next season. He has done a decent job overall since taking over the position from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick, which has prompted the club to take this stance.

Rangnick was initially brought in on an interim basis to solidify the unstable phase that Man United were going through. He has helped them to fourth place in the Premier League so far while they have also qualified for the FA Cup fourth round. If he could assist them in having a great season, there is a chance that he could get the job permanently.

The Old Trafford officials are keeping an eye on the situation for now by assessing what the German coach would do with this crop of players. It is believed that a top-four finish in the league and Champions League qualification would give him great leeway to be in contention for the permanent job.

The Red Devils have put Brendan Rodgers of Leicester City, Mauricio Pochettino of Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax’s Erik ten Hag on the shortlist of potential managerial options for next summer. It remains to be seen how this situation would develop in the coming months and whether the 63-year-old has a long-term future at the helm.

What’s best for us?

Even if performances have been underwhelming at times, the results have been better overall under the Man United coach. It has been an improvement compared to how things were during the last days of Solskjaer. However, even if our boss does a great job for the rest of the season, it may not be best to let him take over the permanent role.

We should not forget the reason why the German manager was appointed in the first place, which is to take over as a consultant after his interim period at the managerial hot seat. His previous affiliations, such as with the Red Bull Group, indicate how he is an able operator in an executive role and can help in the overall running of the club.

It would be wiser to have a permanent manager who has extensive experience in managing a top-level club such as United. The club is in a stage where it has to be managed carefully on the pitch so we can use our world-class players to propel us to the top of English football once again.

With Ed Woodward set to exit the door soon and Solskjaer’s era finally over at Old Trafford, there is a golden chance to start afresh and give the keys to our dressing room to a manager who has succeeded at building a top-level football team on the pitch before in their careers.

The recent talks of a dressing room fallout earlier this month also doesn’t really reflect too well on Rangnick. He still has a few months left to make his mark on the club, but unless he does something really remarkable, it is best if the club sticks to its original plan.
