Manchester United have set their sights on Red Bull Salzburg right-back Amar Dedic ahead of the January transfer window, as per reports.
United revamped their right-back area only this summer by signing Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. He has been a stand-out player for United so far, impressing with his technical quality in possession.
Earlier today, it emerged the Moroccan underwent a “minor precautionary corrective procedure” and is expected to be available for selection within the next few weeks. Diogo Dalot has also been impressive despite being forced to play on the opposite flank due to the side’s injury crisis.
However, according to TEAMtalk, United “could sign another new right-back” if a suitable opportunity arises, as they want to add in more competition for Mazraoui and Dalot.
The latest full-back to emerge on their radar appears to be Dedic, who has earned plenty of plaudits with his performances in the Austrian top flight as well as the Champions League.
In particular, he is admired for his versatility, having shown the ability to play in any position across the backline.
It is claimed United are “considering a move” for the 22-year-old in January, but they face competition for his services from Brighton and Hove Albion and Napoli.
Napoli are believed to be the most serious suitors and will allegedly meet with the player’s entourage during the current international break to understand his situation and conditions for a possible deal.
The report further adds that Salzburg are set to ask around €28 million for his sale in January.
Dedic, who has made 15 appearances for Salzburg this campaign, is contracted to the Red Bull outfit until 2027.
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will take over the role of Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull starting January 1, 2025.
Accordingly, United’s recruitment team might find themselves dealing with Klopp during their pursuit of Dedic. However, how much say the German would get in Salzburg’s transfer business remains unclear at the moment.
