Manchester United have confirmed that defender Evie Rabjohn has ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in what represents a major blow to the women’s team ahead of their pre-season tour.

United relayed via a club statement, “Manchester United can today confirm that defender Evie Rabjohn sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament while on international duty with England Under-19s.”

“Evie will now begin her rehabilitation with the full support of our medical team at Carrington.”

“Everyone at Manchester United wishes Evie a speedy recovery.”

She sustained the injury during England’s match against Serbia at the UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship.

Rabjohn joined United last summer from Aston Villa. She made her Women’s Super League (WSL) debut for her former side at 17.

She has yet to play for United in the WSL but she lined up for the club in the Continental League Cup last term.

The 19-year-old made her debut for United in their 7-0 Conti Cup victory against Merseyside outfit Everton.

The defender put pen to paper on her first full-time professional contract with the Reds in May 2023.

Rabjohn is the fourth United player to rupture her ACL over the past year after Gabby George, Jess Simspon and Emma Watson all picked up physical setbacks of the same nature.

The issue is likely to sideline Rabjohn for the majority of the 2024/25, as her wait for significant first-team minutes under Marc Skinner continues.

Meanwhile, United have already bolstered the women’s team defensive department with the recruitment of Dutch star Dominique Janssen, who arrived at the club as a free agent from Wolfsburg.
