Sekou Kone is working on his fitness before making his first appearance for Manchester United. Some of you may have forgotten that we signed the Mali starlet towards the end of the summer transfer window.

A deal was agreed in August for United to sign Kone from Guidars FC and the transfer was completed on deadline day, with the transfer fee amounting to approximately £1 million.

It’s been over a month since Kone arrived and although he is expected to play for the academy to begin with, he is yet to make an appearance for the youth teams.

Kone is expected to play for the U21s before he is thrown into the first team.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the 18-year-old could make a first academy appearance this month but he won’t be rushed into action.

United are focused on Kone’s long-term development.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims United coaches are very happy with the young midfielder’s initial impact at Carrington.

Romano tweeted: “First moments in Manchester United shirt for Mali midfielder Sekou Kone who describes that as “a dream”.

“Man United completed surprising move in August and coaching staff already very happy with Kone’s initial impact.”

Manchester United made a number of exciting youth signings over the summer, but Kone will hope to push for a first-team debut over the next 12 months. He may even get an opportunity to prove himself in the League Cup this season.
