Having long been linked with a transfer to the Premier League, Monaco defender Axel Disasi now looks set to make his move to the other side of the Channel this summer.

According to L’Équipe tonight, Manchester United are close to completing the signing of the French international, with Disasi opting to join the Red Devils.

The two clubs are yet to begin formal negotiations, but the Principality side – who have missed out on European football altogether after a late-season collapse in form – are hoping to bring in between €40m and €50m, a sum which Manchester United are expected to have no issue in paying.

Disasi has been a regular fixture in the team since arriving from Reims three years ago, and notably played all 38 league matches this year, chipping in with three goals and three assists as well. He was a late call-up to the France squad for the 2022 World Cup, replacing the injured Presnel Kimpembe. In Qatar, he made three appearances, notably taking part in the defeat to Argentina in the final.

Monaco have been prepared for his departure for several months now – and are also expecting fellow international Youssouf Fofana to leave as well – to balance out the budget, which has become all the more of a priority given their 6th-place finish.
