Javier Ribalta has reportedly left his job as Manchester United’s chief scout to take up a new role as Zenit St Petersburg’s sporting director.

Ribalta’s arrival was hailed as a coup after five years working at Juventus, where he was a key figure behind the signings of Paul Pogba, Dani Alves, Paulo Dybala and Alex Sandro.

According to Manchester Evening News,  there was no ‘bad reason’ behind the Spaniard’s departure despite spending just one year at Old Trafford.

There is currently discontent amongst supporters over United’s summer business, having brought in just two players in Diogo Dalot and Fred for a combined €80m.

The club have held talks with Tottenham over a potential deal for Toby Alderweireld and Chelsea for Willian but neither deal seems to be progressing.

Following their draw against San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday, Mourinho revealed: “one thing is what I want and another thing is what is going to happen.”
