Manchester United created a new chapter in their history last night with The Red Devils recording a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at Meadow Park in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup quarter-finals.

Many fans were sceptical of the appointment of head coach Marc Skinner when he first arrived at Manchester United but despite a mixed start to his tenure, Skinner appears to have turned a corner with his new side after a string of very impressive results, the most recent of which coming against The Gunners last night.

“For the magnitude of the game and opponent, it’s a huge, huge result,” Skinner stated when speaking in the post-match press conference.

“We’ve done nothing but got to a semi-final, let’s be very clear but it’s a moment and we have to make many more of them.”

For now, Skinner is very much living in the moment, not looking too far ahead or too far behind, but nevertheless, he believes that one day he’ll look back on this result fondly while he reserved some special praise for the fans.

He said “When I reflect at the end of the season, I’m pretty sure it’ll be a really big, important result because of the psychological aspect of the game. As for now, I’m just really pleased with what the players have produced and what the staff keep producing.

“That was for the fans because of how hard they work for us, travelling in their numbers on an evening where they won’t get back until stupid o’clock.”

The only negative point on what was a very good evening for Skinner and his players was the withdrawal of Kirsty Hanson in the first half. The Scottish winger had to be withdrawn due to an ankle injury which seemed to be causing her quite some discomfort and Skinner offered an early update on her condition.

“She rolled her ankle,” he said. “There’s a little bit of swelling so we won’t know until we’ve assessed her when we get back. She was walking on it after the game. A special mention to her because when she tweaked it, she continued to give everything for the team until she couldn’t give anymore.”

Skinner will hope to have Hanson back ahead of a crucial clash with fellow Barclays FA Women’s Super League top three chasers Tottenham Hotspur at the Leigh Sports Village at the weekend as United look to extend their impressive run.
