According to Fabrizio Romano’s latest report from Calciomercato, Dayot Upamecano’s performance in the Champions League quarter-finals against Atletico Madrid has made the top clubs situp and take notice.

Dayot Upamecano has been one of the most sought after talents in the transfer market this season.

Upamecano’s performance in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League match has set the tongue’s wagging all across Europe and reports indicate that Manchester Utd and AC Milan are looking to swoop in for the French defender this summer

The only roadblock is that the player signed a contract renewal with Leipzig last month.

After signing the contract, Upamecano outlined his reasons for staying – mainly Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

“I feel right at home here in Leipzig – the overall package is perfect,” Upamecano told Leipzig’s official website in an interview.

However, there is a new release clause valid from 2021 which means that whoever wants to sign the 21-year-old will have to pay €42m. Given the market for centre-backs at the moment, that could be an absolute bargain.

Manchester United’s supporters have taken to social media to praise the French center-back’s performance and are convinced that he could be the perfect partner for United captain Harry Maguire.

With the support of the fans behind them, Ed Woodward should look to activate the release clause. This could be an absolute steal for this player in today’s market and breathe of fresh air amid Jadon Sancho talks.
