In a recent report, Calciomercato stated that Manchester United are eyeing a move for Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are hoping to sign the Morocco international during the January transfer window.

Ziyech’s Unimpressive Campaign In West London

Ziyech has endured a tough season at Stamford Bridge thus far as he has struggled to earn regular playing opportunities for Chelsea. The Moroccan sensation has made just nine appearances for the Blues during this campaign but is still waiting to score his first goal across all fronts.

The 29-year-old has seen most of his game time come as a substitute which could be why he is averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.6 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after making 76.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Ziyech has fallen behind Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic in Graham Potter’s pecking order. Hence, Man United could be a good destination for the player this winter if Erik ten Hag is willing to play him regularly in the Premier League.

Should Manchester United Boss Erik ten Hag Snap Ziyech Up?

Ziyech remains a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some driving runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also play in the number ten position or operate as a box-to-box midfielder if needed.

The 45-time Morocco international has got the vision to cut open the opponent’s defence with a decisive pass in the final third and can strike the ball with venom and accuracy when he is playing well on the pitch.

However, Ziyech has to find a way to earn more starts if he wants to get his career back on track. Hence, the Red Devils might have a good chance of luring him to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens this January.

We can expect Ziyech to add more goals and creativity to Erik ten Hag‘s attack. He could even help the Mancunian giants challenge across all competitions in the coming seasons. However, the player could struggle if he is once again playing a reserved role in English football. Ziyech is currently not playing with confidence which ten Hag would have to address. However, there is no doubt about his quality, so Man United would be wise to snap him up during the winter transfer window.
