Manchester United have completed the acquisition of Andre Onana from Inter Milan for an initial €52.5 million plus a further €5m in add-ons.

Onana is the second signing of the summer transfer window for United after the earlier arrival of Mason Mount from Chelsea.

The Cameroon international will reunite with former manager Erik ten Hag following their trophy-laden time together at Ajax between 2017 and 2022.

“To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way,” Onana told Manutd.com.

“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience.

“This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates and new ambitions to fight for.”

Onana has established himself as one of the best ball-playing goalkeepers around, as evidenced in June’s Champions League final against Manchester City.

However, the 27-year-old is also an excellent shot-stopper having recorded an impressive save percentage of 72% in the recently-concluded Serie A campaign.

Onana recorded the most clean sheets in last season’s edition of Europe’s premier club competition, conceding in just two of his side’s seven knockout games.

His arrival frees up the potential departure of Dean Henderson, who is expected to complete a permanent switch to Nottingham Forest where he spent the 2022/23 season on loan.

The future of Tom Heaton remains in the balance as United remain in the hunt to land Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Urawa Red Diamonds.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are expected to pursue the acquisition of a new striker having got a deal for Onana over the line.

Atlanta’s Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as the prime target, with United poised to table an opening offer soon.

They are also keen on landing Sofyan Amrabat to shore up their options in the middle of the park, although any move for the Moroccan could be contingent on Fred’s exit from Old Trafford.
