It’s officially the start of a new chapter at Manchester United with Ralf Rangnick announced as interim manager until the end of the season. The German is then expected to move upstairs to a consultancy role on a further 2-year contract.

The Professor, as he is known in Germany, is excited to be joining United mid-season.

“The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.

“Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.”

Michael Carrick will remain in charge of the first team until Rangnick’s work visa is sorted.

This will give Carrick and Kieran McKenna the chance to learn from Rangnick, which could be a good thing for United in the future.

The German is expected to double his salary after leaving Lokomotiv Moscow as manager of sports and development. Now he in the Premier League challenging fellow German coaches Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel for silverware.
