Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both in the transfer market looking for a new goalkeeper.

For United it remains to be seen if David de Gea will be first choice next season. The Spaniard was set to sign a new contract but there’s been no announcement yet, and Erik ten Hag has made it clear that he isn’t able to give him assurances over game time.

At Tottenham, Hugo Lloris appears to have decided that his future lies away from White Heart Lane.

Both clubs have been linked with a move for the highly-rated Brentford keeper David Raya.

However, according to the Evening Standard, if Brentford don’t reduce their asking price of £40 million, United and Spurs will walk away from any deal.

It remains to be seen if United or Spurs are willing to make Raya a primary target, but spending £40m on a keeper with one year left on his contract seems a bit excessive.

Raya is worth £40m in the current market, but not when there’s 12 months left to run on his current deal. I have the same argument when it comes to pay anything close to £70m for Chelsea’s Mason Mount, who has already agreed personal terms with United.
